Pono AT - Acacia Tenor
Quarter Sawn Solid Acacia Wood -Satin Finish
Here Aaron shows us the brand new solid Acacia tenor from Pono. Pono is a line from the Ko'olau company that makes high end custom ukes here on the island. The Pono is a more affordable version with the same specs and build as the Ko'olau. They really stand out against other choices in their price range. Especially this model! At this price you would be hard pressed to find such a beautiful solid wood tenor with a deep rich tone. Ko'olau braced the Acacia line differently to match the wood density. As a result, there is more fullness and body to the tones than we have heard in Acacia ukuleles. If you want a great tenor for a reasonable price....this may be the one!
A key feature in all of the Pono tenors and baritones is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an allen wrench provided. Over time and with humidity changes, this is a very useful option to have, and a very easy thing to adjust with little room for error.
Acacia is a family of trees that Hawaiian Koa belongs to. This is not Hawaiian Koa but comes from a very similiar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands with hands on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. These are constructed by the finest instrument makers and to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean and woods used on this model are beautiful. We were happy to hear these, because they are impressive with tonal character! *This is a great value*
Ko’olau now only include their hard case with the Pro-Classic Pono series. You can still have that package with a deluxe wooden case. Or you can trim down the price with the canvas covered hard case or gig bag . These add no additional shipping cost and can be selected below-
We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments. This is not an option, and we do not charge for it.
