Located on the east side of our island, Oahu, the Kanilea company is making some of the finest musical instruments you will find. Their concert size is a favorite to many because it has such a full sound, resembling a tenor size in volume and projection. The neck is an bit wider than many concerts so it is comfortable for adult size hands, but the portability and relaxed tension of a concert are still there. This concert Kanilea has been upgraded with premium curly koa and has a satin finish. This instrument is very "open" right off the bat. A "woody" tone sustains wonderfully. Strumming gives a body of tones scooped out in the harsher mid ranges, with clean highs on a bed of lower range warmth. This koa wood on this one is not as flamed as some premiums we have had but has the look many search for. Vertical dark brown lines and varying shades of golds and reds in between. Then with a horizontal flame that moves with the light. The sap wood stripe in the middle of the top and back are also very attractive features of koa rarely found.
Concert size is in between the classic soprano and the popular tenor.
