My friend owns this and I am frequently at his house and so I play it frequently. Although he didn't purchase his from here and it lacks the HMS setup, it is an awesome ukulele. I own a Pono AT and love it, however, this ukulele rocks and the price is unbeatable. You wont worry about taking this everywhere. Buy it you won't be sorry!

My first uke: Couldn't be happier!
This is a very nicely made uke. I chose this Kala laminated model to learn on due to concerns about my arid climate and the need for humidification for a solid wood uke. Mine had a small problem. Hence me knocking it down to 4 stars for quality (I would have gone 4-/12 starts, had that been an option). One of the tuners was loose due to an oversized/stripped screw mounting hole. HMS quickly offered to replace the uke and pay shipping both ways. However, I was able to do the repair myself (toothpick plus wood glue in the hole, then re-drilled). Despite my small issue, I still rate this uke as a fantastic beginner uke to learn on and would certainly buy one like it again without reservation.

    Ideal travel guitar
I play guitar and was looking for a travel guitar at least to exercise whilst away. Played it safe with this excellent alternative. Learning a new instrument. Sounds sweet and is easy to play. Looks great with all mahogany with white binding. Fun instrument.

    Anticipation
Have just ordered, and since it's on the way, all I can post is the result of my research for selecting this uke. I play steel string acoustic and electric guitars, so I'm adding a tenor nylon uke to add low-G tuning fingerstyle to my mix. The nut and bridge material is TUSQ (NuBone), which is the equivalent of bone, and the mahogany laminate body, being what it is, is passible for tone and timbre, and I have no need to spend an extra $1K for solid Koa, Mahogany, or Acacia. I researched ukulele strings, and found the study confusing because most reviewers wrote about "feel" rather than tone. Some strings, like Worth, are expensive and prone to early breakage, while the Aquila Nylgut is both reasonable in cost and appropriate for the tonal characteristics of this model uke. I did specify the wound Low-G string for the strings, which is what my thumb is used to feeling (I don't maintain a long thumbnail). I'm prepared to take a fine file and dress the ends of the fret wires, which would seem a probable need for a tenor uke of this price. I repeat, this "review" is in anticipation; I'll update it when I receive my Kala KA-T.

    Great ukulele!
I purchased this ukulele a few months ago, and have been enjoying it very much ever since. It was very well set up on arrival, and is just so much better than my previous, soprano uke.

    Great Tenor Ukulele
I bought this from HMS last summer and couldn't be more pleased. It is a great value in terms of quality and cost. I own every size of ukulele and practice on all of them but I truly love this tenor. I will be buying an all-solid mahogany tenor in a short while from HMS as they are probably the best in variety of stock, knowledge, set-up, on-line info and lessons, and their sheer love of ukuleles of any dealer, on-line or in-store I have ever dealt with.

    Good starter uke
I bought at KST tenor and a soprano to enable me and my then five year old grand daughter learn to play. THe KAT proved to be a very balanced instrument on which to learn, as did the Kala soprano I bought for my grand daughter. I have recommended the KAT to several people who bought them and we all agree, it is a great value. The sound quality is very good, the construction is very good, and the set up was very good (We all bought them from Musicguymic). I still play the KAT although I have more high end instruments, notably an Islander Tenor. Overall, the the playability of the KAT is very good good. However, the sound, to my taste, is a bit muted. The hardware is good and the construt ion is good -- in short -- no complaints. This really is s fine starter ukulele.

    I love this uke!
I had wanted a ukulele for a long time and got this as a gift. I absolutely love it! Great tone, easy to play. I have since played quite a few others and for the money this one is a steal. It sounds as good as ukes that cost a lot more.

    Unbeleivable
I recently bought two KA-T for friends of mine who helped contribute to my first CD. I was surprisingly shocked at the quality and tone of them. So much so that instead of using my Jazz Arch Top (Also a Kala) I ended up recording 1/2 of the CD using one of these... I almost don't want to give it away, maybe Ill buy one like it w/ electronics on board.... :)

Great starter ukulele! I would recommend this to anyone who just starting to play. I have looked and played others of less quality and they felt more like a toy then a nice playing ukulele like this one.

My first tenor and second uke. It's a beauty and joy to play. Love the richer tone it produces. I got it with a hard case for ease of travel.

    Impressed
My friend has this ukulele and he took it to school one day. I had seen this instrument countless times on the internet but I never once got to play it in person. When I played it, I was quite impressed. The binding was nice and the color was too. The tone was ok, but for the price, it was good.

    My First Full Sized Uke
I moved up the KA-T from a Kala Pineapple soprano. This is a terrific uke! Quality construction; the ivory-color binding is a nice contrast with the satin mahogany finish. The tenor size was for me much easier to form chord shapes on than the soprano; the tone is richer and deeper than a soprano. The standard Aquila strings are a nice extra. I now teach beginner's uke and recommend this uke to my students. Add a clip-on tuner and a gig bag or hard case and you've got a very nice package at a very reasonable value.

    A good starter tenor
I made the mistake of not getting mine from HMS. For the longest time I thought I'd just have trouble playing a tenor - after a good setup it became a daily player. A no-nonsense, quality uke - an unspectacular sound, but for the price an excellent value.

    Great Ukulele for the price
I have had a great time with this Uke. It stays in tune and the notes sound true. Only one minor problem - one of the support strips inside came a little loose after a few months. A little glue on a q-tip and it was fixed. Otherwise I have happily played it every day for six months and like it more each day.

Nice Uke at a great price
This is my first tenor and I love it! The sound is very good and it looks great. Good craftsmanship on the construction and no trouble keeping it in tune. If you are a bigger person who finds a soprano a bit confining, this model will make you very happy. I can't put it down.
